CFCU Strategic Plan

Planning for our continued success!

Strategic Planning is the process of developing a long-range plan for the direction and goals of an organization.  Check out the tabs below to learn more about the CFCU Strategic Plan!

Goals

The 2015-2017 CFCU Strategic Plan is comprised of 10 goals that provide a roadmap for the continued success of the Credit Union.  We ensure any new initiatives meet objectives toward one or more of these goals:

Employee Engagement

We believe employees are a key component of our success.  The name reflects not just the desire to retain and recognize our employees, but also to keep them actively engaged in the Credit Union.

Board Development

It is important that our Board continue their education, understand industry trends, and be provided with the resources needed to make sound decisions.

Organizational Effectiveness and Efficiency

We will continue working on improving processes and making investments that help employees do their jobs, and members manage their finances, in a manner that is both effective and efficient.

Embrace Technology

In addition to exploring new technology, this goal encompasses providing employees and members with the most up-to-date technology offerings possible.  We are aware that technology is constantly changing, and it is important for us to keep pace with the industry.

Facilities Master Planning

Maintaining the physical infrastructure of our facilities is important.  We want to ensure buildings are accessible, safe, welcoming, and comfortable for members and employees.  This goal reflects the desire to examine facilities at all CFCU locations and make necessary improvements.

Emphasis on Community Involvement

We are proud of the difference we’ve made in our communities, and plan to continue this support.

Deepen Member Relations and Cross Sell

Without members, we wouldn’t exist!  It is important to continue establishing strong relationships with each member, and helping identify our products and services that meet their needs.

Maintain Financial Health

This goal reflects the need to consider all aspects of the balance sheet when making decisions.   Each year, the Board of Directors approves a budget that includes financial goals and desired ratios.  The budget is set by taking into account past history, market potential, and upcoming projects.

Market Expansion and Retention

We have a strong presence in our two-county market.  The name of this goal recognizes the desire to maintain (or grow) our current market share, being open to new possibilities, and retaining our current members.

Establish Vision, Mission, and Values

As we move towards a billion dollar credit union, one of our next steps is to develop a vision statement, mission statement, and set of values that clearly articulate who we are and what we stand for.  We will seek input from employees, members, volunteers, and community leaders as we work toward this goal.

Process

The development of the 10 Strategic Goals began in 2012, when CFCU partnered with D. Hilton and Associates, a top provider of credit union services, to work on strategic planning.  Executives, the Board of Directors, and members of the Supervisory Committee met for a day-long retreat where we discussed numerous aspects of the Credit Union and objectives for the future.  These ideas were compiled into 10 goals.  From that point forward, all budgetary and programmatic decisions were related back to the Strategic Goals.

Since 2012, we have also implemented a series of meetings and retreats for employees, managers, and volunteers to revisit strategic objectives, discuss necessary adjustments to the goals, and track progress on projects tied back to the Strategic Plan.  Members have been informed during the Annual Meeting, through newsletter articles, and now through this website!

We see Strategic Planning as a collaborative, cyclical process that involves everyone connected to CFCU, with all paths leading back to the member.  For example, members share ideas with employees and the Board of Directors. Employees take these requests to project managers, who bring them to the Executive Team.  The Executive Team and project managers often work with vendors, or critical business partners, who provide the product or service needed.  The Board of Directors approves policies and votes on strategic decisions and goals, and members see the outcome of these decisions through their interaction with employees.

The process can begin at any point in the circle, and all stakeholders are critical to our success!

2015 Accomplishments

2015 was a busy year at CFCU and we are proud to have completed numerous major projects!  These included:

  • Hiring of a VP of Human Resources and a VP of Business Lending to round out our Management Team

  • Implementing Instant Issue Cards so members can receive their permanent debit card when opening their account – no more waiting for it to arrive in the mail!

  • Rolling out e-signatures capabilities to create efficiencies in document processing

  • Giving members the ability to open and fund accounts online

  • Offering gift cards and reloadable, pre-paid debit cards to members

  • Completely revamping the Intranet portal used by employees.  The new Intranet has greatly improved the way employees receive information, search for resources, and communicate with one another, all leading to improved service to our members!

In addition to these projects (and many others!) we also met our loan and deposit growth goals in 2015.  Thank you for your continued membership – we couldn’t accomplish these things without you!

2016 Projects

What’s on our docket for 2016?  We have another exciting year planned, with many initiatives underway that will benefit members and employees.  A few of these include:

  • Apple Pay - We went live on Apple Pay in January, 2016.  Click here for more information.

  • EMV Cards – Beginning with debit cards that expire at the end of March, 2016, members will receive a chip-enabled replacement card.  Members can also request a chip card, if one is needed, prior to their card expiring.  Click here for more information.

  • Card Valet – Imagine being able to set restrictions or parameters for your own debit card, without having to contact CFCU!  With Card Valet, members will be able to turn their card on or off, set transaction limits, schedule alerts for specific transactions, and more!  This is anticipated to be available to members later this year.

  • SWIFT Code – By member request, CFCU now has its own SWIFT Code through which money can be transferred from a foreign financial institution to a CFCU account.  Check out the information here!

  •  Extended Call Center Hours - Members can now reach our Call Center from 8:00am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday and from 9:00am-12:00pm on Saturdays. We look forward to talking with you!
